20 Acres under cultivation
4 Aquilaria species
2009 Established

Not a species. A wound that turns to resin.

One — The tree

Aquilaria begins as an ordinary tropical hardwood

Pale, light, unremarkable. Left undisturbed it stays that way for its whole life.

Two — The wound

Injury changes everything

Broken or infected heartwood floods with a dark oleoresin. The pale wood darkens from the inside out.

Three — The resin

Years of defence become value

Depth is measured in years, not months — which is why wild Aquilaria was cut faster than it could regrow.

Four — The oud

Distillation releases the fragrance

Graded, soaked and slowly distilled into oud oil: warm, animalic, impossible to synthesise convincingly.

Oud oil

The essence of Gaharu.

Weeks of soaking. Days of slow heat. A few millilitres of oil from many kilograms of wood. Nothing about oud rewards impatience.

Origin Aquilaria Sinensis
Craft Traditional soak, low-temperature hydro-distillation
Character Warm resin, damp wood, dried fruit, a long quiet finish
Quality Batch-recorded from tree to bottle, undiluted

Wild Agarwood was cut to the edge of collapse. Cultivation is the correction.

It only counts if the plantation leaves more behind than it takes.

RAL Plantations grows Aquilaria as a long-cycle agricultural crop: propagated on site, inoculated under controlled method, harvested on rotation and immediately replanted.

How we grow it

Twenty acres. One living ecosystem.
